Maxime FONTANILLES

M.D. Ph.D – Physician-researcher specializing in oncology.

On the research side, I completed my PhD at the University of Rouen Normandie (INSERM UMR1245) in 2021. My work focused on translational research investigating the detection of circulating tumor DNA in body fluids from patients with high-grade gliomas, specifically in bloodstream and cerebrospinal fluid samples. To this end, our team developed assays capable of detecting recurrent somatic mutations, such as the TERT promoter mutation, using droplet digital PCR and a targeted next-generation sequencing panel. We also created a ddPCR-based tool to detect somatic copy number variations and truncating mutations in the EGFR gene within glioblastoma tumor samples. In 2023, I continued my research by conducting a post-doctoral fellowship on identifying genomic alterations in the blood of glioblastoma patients at Stanford University in California.

From 2011 to 2016, I did my residency in medical oncology at the Comprehensive Cancer Centre Henri Becquerel and at the university hospital Charles Nicolle in Rouen. I specialize in Neuro-oncology by obtaining an inter-university diploma, followed by a one-year clinical fellowship at Pitié Salpêtrière Hospital in Paris. Since 2021 I am an attending in medical oncology at Cancer Centre Henri Becquerel and Le Havre General Hospital. Since 2022, I have served as the medical lead for Neuro-oncology in Eastern Normandy, where I coordinate the patient care pathway (Cancer Centre Henri Becquerel, university hospital Charles Nicolle and Le Havre Hospital). I also participate in multidisciplinary tumor board meetings alongside neurosurgeons, radiotherapists, neuro-pathologists, and neuro-radiologists. Additionally, I am the principal investigator for clinical trials and translational research within the field of neuro-oncology.

On the educational side, I am an Associate Professor at the School of Medicine in Rouen since 2022. I am involved in teaching general oncology and neuro-oncology to medical students, oncology residents, and advanced nursing students. Additionally, I contribute to teaching in the fields of neuro-oncology and molecular biology for master’s degree students. I have also served on the board of « Lettre de l’Anocef, » the online journal of the French Association of Neuro-Oncology (ANOCEF).
